Dear Editor:
As a career naval aviator and current County Supervisor, safety has always been my number one concern. A key component of a safe community is its hospital with update facilities and equipment. That is why I urge you to vote Yes on Measure C.
We need a local hospital and emergency room to serve the Kern River Valley. Kern Valley Hospital is required to improve earthquake safety or it will have to close. Citizens in rural communities often have to travel long distances for emergency care. The absence of a hospital negatively affects these communities.

The loss of the Hospital to the Kern River Valley would be catastrophic. As we recently witnessed, weather events have an adverse impacts to the roads in and out of the KRV. Without the local hospital, the closest emergency care would be Bakersfield or Ridgecrest. The quality and availability of service is crucial.

We must be prudent with our tax dollars and judicious in spending them. All funds from Measure C are to improve the Kern Valley Hospital. The funds are local and will remain local. Additionally, an independent citizen's oversight committee will perform mandatory audits and public reports. This will provide proper allocations of the funds.
The Kern Valley Hospital is a valuable asset to the community. I ask that you join with me in supporting Measure C.
