At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, the Kern County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Search and Rescue (SAR) team responded to Gold Ledge Campground, about 10 miles north of Kernville in Tulare County, for an individual stranded on the west side of the Kern River.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Department requested assistance from KCSO SAR to aid them in rescuing a 23-year-old man from Victorville who had been swimming in the Kern River without a life jacket.
