June 4, 1944 — Oct. 29, 2020
Marjorie Anne McGinnis, age 76, passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2020. She was born June 4, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas to Glenn and Jane (Upshaw) Mason. In January 1963, she married Bill Verzi Jr. in San Jose, California. This union was blessed with two daughters, Julie and Jackie. In 1977, Marjorie and Bill moved their family to the Kern River Valley. Marjorie was a familiar face around the valley as she worked at Paradise Cove, the law office of John Dean and Richard Rooney at Farmers Insurance.
In 1982 she went to work at China Lake Naval Weapons Station in Ridgecrest and retired in 1993.
With thanks to God and the Alcoholics Anonymous program, Marjorie was sober since 1976.
She devoted her life to AA and the opportunity to sponsor many women in the Kern River Valley and Ridgecrest. She was a positive influence in many people’s lives.
Marjorie is survived by her 101-year-old mother, Jane Mason; daughters, Julie Shearer and Jackie Steinberg; grandchildren, Courtney and Trevor Lightner, Justin Steinberg and Dale Shearer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Glenn Mason; ex-husband Bill Verzi; and sisters, Kay Vierra and Betty Guenette. Her family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Kern Valley Skilled Nursing for their care and compassion for Marjorie for more than four years. And also, a sincere thank you to Optimal Bristol Hospice, especially Irina and Vanessa for their care for Marjorie in her final days. No funeral or memorial service is planned.
