Lloyd Luers McMullen, Jr., was born on February 19, 1948. He passed on March 15, 2019, at 8:30 p.m. Lloyd was at his residence at 4644 Larsen when he took his last breath. He had his wife, Donna, and his son, Steven, by his side.
Lloyd joined his parents, Lillian Belle McMullen and Lloyd Luers McMullen, Sr., in his passing. He has one brother, Richard McMullen, who is married to Judy Tweedy McMullen.
Lloyd grew up mostly in Santa Maria, where he went to school. He loved going to the dunes, camping, and riding motorcycles. I think these things relieved his stress. My father was a hard worker. He did trucking and worked on various things; if it broke, he could fix it. He settled down working on heavy equipment for at least 20 years on an oil rig, where he retired this year. He still did side jobs.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Donna McMullen, who he was married to for 52 years; his son, Steven McMullen; daughter, Brenda Pettit; and his son-in-law, Tommy Pettit. Lloyd also had three grandkids he was very proud of: Randal and wife Deedra Pettit; Amber McMullen and boyfriend Tyler Ellen; and the youngest, Summerlynn Pettit. Lloyd also adored his great-grandson, Grayson Ellen.
But we all know the love he had for his sidekick, Shilo, who was a third child. He wasn’t just a dog; he was a son.
We are having his memorial on April 5 at 3:00 p.m. for our final goodbye at Basham Funeral Home at 3312 Niles St., Bakersfield, 93306. This is also where flowers should be sent.
