Kern Valley’s Jacob Lightner has chosen to serve his country.
Lightner will leave shortly after graduation and become a member of the United States Army.
Lightner grew up splashing his way onto the Kern Valley Sun sports pages as he was a dominant wrestler as a youth.
As he got older, the wrestling was still part of him and then at Kern Valley High School he branched out to playing football. He also was a member of the Kern Valley track squad. Lightner is a two-time participant in the CIF State Wrestling Meet. In one of his last feats as a Bronc, Lightner finished eighth in the shot put at the High Desert League Finals held at Cerro Coso College in Ridgecrest.
Just recently, Lightner was selected to play in the Army All-Star Bowl. This is a game for senior players that competed in an arena football game. Lightner was chosen as the lineman of the game.
With the glory days of high school behind him, Lightner will now move on to becoming a vital member of another team that will protect this country.
