Lightner a ‘Big Bash’ champion

Over the Christmas break the Broncs went to The Bash in Santa Maria. Kern Valley saw one championship and one finish in second place.

Lightner took home the championship and was selected as the outstanding upper weight wrestler.

Tapia was the other player as he wrestled his way into the finals, falling short and finishing in second place.

The Broncs got back in action after the break competing against Rosamond in a home Dual.

Kern Valley came out on top with at 48-18 victory. Picking up forfeit wins for the Kern Valley were Jacob Lightner, Leah Villa, Brayden Liberio, Carter Adams and Gaige Smoot.

Diego Tapia and John Erdei picked up wins by pin. Chris Mendoza and Kaycee Donaldson picked up wins by points.

On Friday the Broncs went to the Kern County Invite where we had two wrestlers pick up top five finishes.

Lightner placed second and Tapia placed fifth.

Mendoza and Dean Hinkey each finished the tournament with one win in three matches on the mat.

The Broncs take on the Scorpions of Desert at home tomorrow at 5 p.m.

This match will decide the High Desert League champion for the season.

Head coach Wes Woody said, “We would like all your support, so come on out to cheer on your Broncs.”

The match starts at 5 p.m. The following day the Kern Valley team will be traveling to Morro Bay to compete in a tournament.
