The Lady Broncs junior varsity volleyball squad picked up a win over Cal City in High Desert League action.
Kern Valley won the match with scores of 25-16 and 25-21.
Leading the team in kills was Kaila Gholson with four. Delaney Lynkins finished with three, while Kasey Lassen and Riley Embree each had a pair of kills.
Lynkins was the service ace for Kern Valley as she delivered three. Gholson and Kerri Sundberg each had two service aces, while Quincie Preston and Lassen each had one.
Earlier on Sept. 25, the Lady Broncs took on their rival Bishop. The Lady Broncs swept the match by winning in two games. Kern Valley lost game one 16-25, and then followed that with a 17-25 loss.
Kills: Lynkins 2, Gholson 2, Sundberg 1, Lassen 1.
Serving aces: Preston 3, Zoey Schnell 1, Sundberg 1, Lassen 1, Lynkins 1.
Head coach Brianna Moss said, “Bishop was a very tall and experienced team. They’ve played in several tournaments this year where they played varsity opponents. Any time you get that kind of experience, your team is going to be better. I feel like we played really well against Bishop, but ultimately it wasn’t enough. We struggle at times with getting serves over the net consistently. I feel like if we could cut the serve errors in half that we would be putting ourselves in a better spot and have a better chance at winning some of these close games.”
Kern Valley got back on track in the High Desert League as they beat Boron in two straight to claim the match. The set scores were 25-15 and 25-15.
Kills: Lassen 4, Sundberg 2, Lykins 2.
Blocks: Sundberg 1
Aces: Gholson 6, Lykins 5, Kaylee Parker 3, Lassen 2, Sundberg 1.
Moss said, “We’ve been on the road for several games in a row. When we got to our game Thursday the girls were pretty worn out coming off of so many road games in a row and the Fair. I thought they did a great job at getting their serves in better and playing well.”
Earlier in the week, the Lady Broncs had a non-league match with Mammoth. It took the Lady Huskies three sets to get the match win over Kern Valley.
Set scores saw Mammoth win the first one 12-25. The Lady Broncs rallied for the 26-24 win in the second, but fell in the third 11-15.
Kills: Lykins 5, Lassen 2, Gholson 1 Schnell 1
Aces: Gholson 6, Parker 3, Schnell 1, Riley Embree 1, Lassen 1.
Digs: Parker 8, Gholson 4, Lykins 3, Lassen 3, Schnell 3.
Moss said, “Mammoth was a good team and a great overall program. We started slowly and couldn’t seem to get things going in the first game. We regrouped and played much better the rest of the match.”
It was a trip to Desert on Tuesday for the Lady Broncs before coming home to play Frazier Mountain on Thursday.
