The varsity Lady Broncs volleyball team stumbled out of the gate to start this season.

They would open the year with a loss to the Lady Trojans of Foothill in the three straight games.

In the match with the Lady Trojans of Foothill, Kern Valley took a seven-point loss in game one. Game two was a little closer as the final score favored the Lady Trojans 25-19. The final game of the match also went Foothills way as they took the game 25-20 to complete the sweep and collect the match win.

Two days later, it was another road trip. This time, it was to Delano to square off with Wonderful College Prep Academy (Delano).

It would be a satisfying trip as they would come home with a sweep of their own to earn their first victory of the new year.

The two teams battled the whole way as they matched each other in scoring. Game one was the closest one as the Lady Broncs claimed the 25-23 win to go up 1-0 in the match.

Game two was another nail-biter, but in the end it was Kern Valley winning the game 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

They would finish off the Lady Wolves as they took game three 25-19 to complete the sweep and give them the win.

The Lady Broncs (1-1) played at home on Tuesday when they took on the Lady Generals of Shafter. On Thursday, they will be back at home against Sierra.

Both matches will begin right after the jayvee volleyball match, which begins at 4 p.m. for the Shafter match and 3:30 p.m. for the Sierra match.
