The Lady Broncs soccer team defeated Cal City on Feb. 6 to earn a spot in CIF Central Section playoffs. The lone goal for Kern Valley occurred 30 minutes into the match as Danielle Debski managed a Lady Broncs goal kick and sent it on to Katie Lamping, who broke through the Lady Ravens defense to place the ball in the back of the net with composure.
The Lady Broncs pounded the Cal City goal throughout the game with 23 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks. In contrast, freshman keeper Mila Morgan needed to make only one save to preserve the shut out. Alas, the Kern Valley strikers could not score again, leaving the final score 1-0.
The Lady Broncs are solid third place in the High Desert League with an 4-3-3 record behind Rosamond and Bishop who are tied for first with a 8-1-1 record.
With a rank of eighth seed in Division 5 of the CIF, they will host ninth-seeded Coalinga at the Kern Valley High School football field at 5 p.m. today. The gates will open to sell tickets at 4 p.m.
A win over Coalinga would send the Lady Broncs to face the top seeded Orosi in the quarterfinals on Friday.
