On the road and then at home, the Lady Broncs varsity volleyball team competed against Cal City and Bishop in High Desert League play this past week.
Struggling to find the rhythm into the win column, the varsity team lost the match 17-25, 23-25 and 10-25 to the Cal City team and then lost to their rival Bishop 18-25, 21-25, and 15-25.
On a positive note, Lexi Baker returned to play this week and the team welcomed Marianna Gray to the varsity squad.
This helped to balance the ratio of hitters and defenders the squad is able to place on the court.
Kern Valley head coach Sabine Mixon said, “We know that we have really struggled with serve/receive through these past weeks and we are very excited to have these young ladies back to help us out in this very important area element of volleyball. One of the strengths that the Lady Broncs have enjoyed is the quality of serving, with an 89.9 percent in league play.”
Taking top honors on the court this week with five ace serves was Haley Tedrow, followed by Brooklyn Gallis with four. Arian Hess and Haily Martinez also contributed two each, while Lexi Baker and Caley Osorio each delivered one.
Gallis also slammed down 10 kills to lead the Kern Valley team. Hess collected seven, while, Alyson Bangert knocked down six. Maya Wicker contributed five, while Tedrow and Baker each had three. Martinez and Sheridan Muth recorded one apiece.
Setters Hess and Martinez grabbed 10 and eight assists respectively. Other Assist contributions came from Gallis (3), Wicker, Bangert and Tedrow each had two. Gray, Baker, Muth and Summer Dourlain helped out with one assist apiece.
Tedrow also excelled in the area of digs with 26, followed by Hess (24), Bangert (15), Baker (9), Dourlain (8), Gallis (7), Osorio (7), Martinez (4), Wicker (3), and Muth (2).
