The Lady Broncs went on the road traveling to match up with the Shafter High Lady Generals for the third non-league match of the season.
Kern Valley heated up the court taking the first set 26-24. Maya Wicker was on fire, collecting four or her 13 kills on the night in the first set.
During the second set the two teams matched up well until rotation No. 4 when Haily Martinez stepped to the service line. She delivered well placed serves that gave the Lady Broncs a six-point lead over the Lady Generals 12 – 6. But the squad was not able to hold on to that lead and Shafter took over going up 15-14 by the end of their sixth rotation.
Summer Dourlain popped out a few good serves and the Lady Broncs took the lead again at 17-15, but then Kern Valley became plagued by errors. Shafter rotated back to their first server and ,were able to put up a nine-point run which ended the second set 25-17 and the match was all tied up at 1-1.
The third set seemed to be a repeat of the second and the Lady Broncs were on fire and back in command with a score of 19-9. They allowed the Lady Generals a quick come back with a six- point run and then a four-point run which ended the set in a loss for the Lady Broncs with a score of 26-28.
Trailing 2-1 in the match, Kern Valley went into the fourth and set. The teams rallied back and forth and had a tie game at 12-12. With the game then tied again at 17-17, Shafter once again was able to amass another six-point run on the Lady Broncs. The Kern Valley squad was not able to overcome the deficit, taking the 17-25 loss. Shafter collected the match win 3-1.
Wicker ended the night with 13 kills, followed by Brookelynn Gallis with seven. Haley Tedrow and Alyson Bangert each picked up four, while Anne Keverline knocked down three. Lexie Baker had two kills and setters Arian Hess and Haily Martinez each contributed one.
Hess and Martinez also collected 10 and nine assists respectively, while Wicker, Keverline, Bangert and Baker tallied one apiece.
Bangert and Tedrow were each credited with one block. Dourlain had 13 digs followed by Baker with 11, Hess had 10. Martinez and Tedrow recorded four each, while Gallis had three. Wicker closed out the dig totals as she had two.
Baker delivered three service aces, followed by Hess, Gallis and Martinez with one each.
The Lady Broncs will hit the road again today traveling to Sierra High School. On Sept. 6-7, the varsity squad will compete in the Mammoth Tournament. After that they will return home to face the Boron Lady Bobcat in the first High Desert League match on Sept. 10.
