It was one good, one bad in recent High Desert League action for the varsity Lady Broncs softball squad.
Traveling to Cal City on April 25, Kern Valley scored plenty of runs as they took the game 22-2. Three days later, they gave up 18 and managed to score 11 in a loss to Bishop.
In the Cal City game, eight of the nine players from Kern Valley recorded at least one hit. As a team, they banged out 17, including three home runs. They also belted a triple and two doubles.
The only inning Kern Valley failed to score was the second.
They opened quickly and took a 2-0 lead after one. In the third, the Lady Broncs scored five times and followed that with a 15-run fourth. They batted around the order twice. They collected 10 hits and took advantage of six errors. Two balls left the yard as Kern Valley smacked a pair of home runs in the run scoring explosion. Sam Alvarez and Lexi Baker cracked the home runs for Kern Valley.
The Lady Ravens scored both of their runs late in the bottom of the fifth.

Three days later, Kern Valley made the long trip to Bishop. The Lady Broncos took control early and then hung on for the victory.
The Lady Broncs grabbed the lead in the top of the first. It would be the last time they were ahead in the game. Bishop tied the score at 1-1 in their half of the first.
Despite loading the bases in the second Kern Valley could not break through leaving the score tied at 1-1.
The Lady Broncos broke open the game with six runs in the second. Kern Valley got one back, but Bishop responded with five more in the third.
Trailing 12-2, the Lady Broncs got two back in the fourth and closed the gap with seven in the fifth to make it 12-11.
Bishop got two insurance runs in the fifth and closed it out with four in the sixth to create the final of 18-11.

By splitting these games the Lady Broncs are currently 12-7 overall and are at .500 in the HDL at 3-3.
Next up for Kern Valley will be a trip to Frazier Mountain on Friday. They were home against the Desert Lady Scorpions on Tuesday.
