Lady Broncs collect first win

The atmosphere of the Bronc-A-Dome was electric, the new court primed and ready and the varsity Lady Broncs were thirsty for their first win of the new season.
Following a loss on Tuesday to Foothill High to open the season, Thursday’s match against Wonderful College Prep Academy on Kern Valley’s home court set the standard of volleyball play this squad intends to put on the court this season.

Invigorated by a lively, supportive crowd and a mission to win, the Lady Broncs faced off with Wonderful Academy.
Matching up pretty well throughout most of the set, Wonderful started to pull away with a strong server and the Lady Broncs found themselves down 20-23 before they sided out.
Alyson Bangert took to the service line and, with a combined team effort, put the set into the books with a 25-23 win. Kern Valley took the next two sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-18 to give them the match victory.

Haley Tedrow flexed her muscles and put down six kills, Maya Wicker and Lexi Baker had three apiece. Anne Keverline and Bangert had two kills while Arian Hess, Brookelynn Gallis and Summer Dourlain each collected one kill in the match.

Setter, Haily Martinez was one of the hot servers, along with Hess and Tedrow, each firing off four ace serves. Gallis, Baker and, Dourlain each had two aces.
Dourlain was the hot digger with seven. Hess had five, Tedrow and Baker each had two while, Caley Osorio, Muth and Martinez each picked up one dig.
Baker also put the roof on two blocks while Tedrow, Wicker and Gallis each had one block at the net.

Tuesday’s match-up was the first competitive match that the team had seen and nerves were high. The team struggled during the first two sets to find the right tempo and flow, losing 17-25 and 13-25.

However, in the third and final set, they were able to rebound and find their momentum of play, but still took the loss 24-26.

Freshman, Gallis had a standout night at the serving line, landing seven aces during the match. Taking the Broncs on a seven-point run in the first set, and adding a couple more throughout the match.

Hess added three ace serves and Bangert and Lexi Baker pitched in one each.

Wicker slammed down four kills followed by Tedrow with three, Bangert added a pair of kills, while Baker and Gallis each had one kill.

Bangert, Tedrow and Wicker each collected one block. Libero, Dourlain came up with five digs, Tedrow had three, while Sheridan Muth, Hess, Baker and Wicker each finished with one.
The Lady Broncs went on the road on Tuesday to take on Shafter as they continue their short Non-league season.
