As the Lady Broncs varsity volleyball team heads toward the last two weeks of the season, they were happy to host Desert High School on the home court.

They picked up the win, bringing their High Desert League record to 4-5-0. The Lady Broncs came out swinging, tallying up a total of 35 kills and 15 ace serves in four sets. Kern Valley took the first 25-14, dropped the second 20-25, and then rallied back to win the next two 25-19 and 25-17.

The Lady Broncs had a “block” party with five total blocks, won the serve/receive rating with a 1.48 to the Scorpions 1.12 and picked up 28 total assists to Desert’s nine.

Taking top honors in assists was Arian Hess with 12, followed by Kassy Opferman (7), Bradlie Preston (4) Lexi Baker (3), Krista Wit-ten (1) and Alyson Bangert (1).

Head coach Sabine Mixon said, “Being able to hit off of so many different sets from both setters and non-setters allowed the Lady Broncs to spread out their offensive attacks and keep the Lady Scorpions off guard.”

Smashing down seven kills each were Preston and Alyssa Servin, Baker had six, Maya Wicker and Haley Tedrow each terminated four, Bangert put down three and Opferman, Witten and Abby Achorn each contributed one.

The team also scooped up a total of 40 digs with Achorn, Servin and Hess shoveling up eight respectively, Preston 7, Baker 5, Wicker 2, while Witten and Tedrow each dug up one.

Kern Valley then headed up to Frazier Mountain on Thursday and took a league loss in three sets, modifying the league record to 4-6-0. The Lady Falcons took the match 25-7, 25-7, and 25-12.

(Individual stats were not available at press time.)

The Lady Broncs will traveled to Rosamond on Tuesday and will go on the road again to Cal City on Thursday.

Then they will face Bishop in the Kern Valley Bronc-a-Dome for the final regular season match on October 16. This will be Senior Night, where our seven senior players, Abby Achorn, Alyssa Servin, Bradlie Preston, Casiana Godinez, Destiny Chaparro, Kassy Opferman and Krista Lynn Witten, will be honored.

Mixon said, “We invite all to come out and help us celebrate the achievements of these amazing young ladies and help cheer us on to victory.
