Lady Broncs alternate wins

The varsity Lady Broncs basketball squad had alternating decisions in their tournament games this past week.

Kern Valley played in four games and they alternated winning and losing those games. They began with a 49-36 win over Foothill in the Corcoran Tournament.

The Lady Broncs had the lead after the opening quarter at 15-12. At the break it was 24-20. Coming out for the second half, Kern Valley outscored their opponents 16-7 to take the commanding lead at 40-27. Both teams tallied nine points in the final quarter to create the final score.

Kern Valley scoring: Maddie Hurley 26 (5-three-pointers), Addy Goulding 8 (three-pointer), Brenna Acosta 7 (three-pointer), Haley Tedrow 4, Brookelynn Gallis 4.

Rebounding: Hurley 15 (double-double), Tedrow 10, Alyson Bangert 10, Goudling 8, Acosta 3, Gallis 2, Mariah Maxwell 1.

In game two of the tournament, the Lady Broncs took on the host school Corcoran. This was a back-and-forth battle that came right down to the end.

The two teams matched each other with the score changing almost with every basket. When the final horn sounded, the Lady Panthers of Corcoran had come away with the 37-36 win.

Corcoran took the 15-13 lead after the first quarter to start the see saw game. Kern Valley stepped up the defense in the second quarter limiting the Lady Panthers to just seven points. The Lady Broncs offense on the other hand responded by pouring in 13 points to grab the 26-22 lead at the break.

Coming out of the locker room, both teams got defensive as they combined for just seven points in the third quarter. Corcoran had five, while Kern Valley scored two. The lead after three belonged to the Lady Broncs 28-27.
In the final quarter, the Lady Panthers scored 10 points which was two more than Kern Valley. This in turn would saddle the Lady Broncs with the loss.

The next game put Kern Valley against Coalinga. In another tight battle the Lady Broncs would be able to secure the one-point win. The teams were tied at 11-11 after the opening quarter. The Lady Horned Toads exploded for 22 points in the second quarter to take the commanding 33-22 lead into the break.

Coalinga scored 12 points in the third quarter, while the Lady Broncs had their third straight 11-point quarter. It was 45-33 after three quarters.

Kern Valley outscored Coalinga 20-7 to escape with the 53-52 win.

In their final game of the tournament, the Lady Broncs played North High. Kern Valley could not match up with the Lady Stars who took the game 47-28.

Kern Valley will not see action again until Dec. 20 when they open up High Desert League play. Desert will come to town.
