When it comes to student-athletes, Kern Valley High School has their fair share.
Just recently the Central Section of the CIF released the Spring Academic team champions for 2018-19.
Kern Valley has four teams in the top 27 from each sport.
There are approximately 100 schools that make up the Central Section of CIF. It shows that the student-athletes of Kern Valley are not only athletically worthy, but also take care of business in the classroom. It makes a statement that the athletes on these teams, despite coming from a small school, can compete on and off the field with the bigger schools of the Central Section.
The Lady Broncs softball team, with a collective GPA of 3.74, sit atop all the softball teams in the Central Section. They were followed closely at No. 2 by the Broncs baseball team, who sit just behind Kings Christian (3.60 GPA). The GPA for the Broncs was a collective 3.53. The Kern Valley girls track squad was slated at No. 5 with a team GPA of 3.69. Centennial and Sierra Pacific were on top with a 3.73 GPA. Finishing for Kern Valley was the boys track team, who are tied for the No. 27 spot. They had a team GPA of 3.10.
Kern Valley Principal, John Meyers said, “This is phenomenal news. There are about 100 teams in the Central Section in these sports. Our kids travel the furthest and get the best grades.”
Credit must be given to the teachers and administration for this high honor. Without them, the student-athletes of Kern Valley would not be the overachievers they have become.
