KVHD has its monthly board meeting on August 5, where they announced some important changes the hospital will be making. They have developed a renovation plan consisting of nine phases and will meet state-mandated seismic requirements. KVHD buildings are 50 years old and the infrastructure needs to be updated for more modern usage.

It is expected to cost $16-$19 million, which is less than half of the $38 million from the Measure Q Plan that was voted on in 2018’s elections. This new plan will be paid overtime and will require no tax revenue from the community. The majority of the board of directors, minus Gene Parks, approved the contract of the seismic portion. Application deadlines must be met and documents submitted to the state to avoid complications that will cost millions of dollars more. More details are provided at kvhd.org.

The drive-through COVID testing center has performed 1153 tests. Of those tests 46 were positive, 21 of those positives were KRV residents and 11 were repeats. $84,300 in grant funds have been received which will be considered for obtaining in-house lab equipment that will provide quicker turn around results.

KVHD is urging the community to provide input so that they can be incorporated in the hospital’s 3-year strategic plan that was developed by the board of directors in the first week of September. This survey can be accessed by clicking the link at the top of the kvhd.org homepage.

COVID testing will be available every Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through August 27. It will be determined if the testing will continue after this date, the public will be notified of any changes. There are no restrictions on who can be tested and there is no charge to those who get tested.

The labs are experiencing a backlog due to the number of tests being performed therefore it can take up to 14 days to receive test results. Test sites are still located in front of KVHD in the white tent. Enter from McCray Rd. You must be in line prior to 1:30 p.m. to guarantee you will be tested that day. If you have symptoms please notify staff.
