Coach’s Submission

The Lady Broncs soccer squad faced their fiercest league competition yet as they hosted the undefeated Bishop Lady Broncos on Jan. 8.

Less than two minutes in Bishop struck first with a shot on goal saved by Lexi Baker, and earned a corner kick a minute later. Abby Goulding countered for the Lady Broncs with her own shot on goal. The game surged back and forth until Bishop finally scored in the 15th minute of play, and scored again 15 minutes later leaving the score 0-2 at half time.

The Lady Broncs couldn’t crack the Broncos possession, and Bishop scored one more with 30 minutes left in the game, leaving the final score Kern Valley 0 Bishop 3.

Goal keeper Baker racked up 13 saves while the Lady Broncs recorded three shots on goal. Bishop earned three corner kicks against Kern Valley’s single corner kick.

The next day, the Lady Broncs traveled to Rosamond to take on the second place Lady Roadrunners. Rosamond scored a goal in three minutes, and a second goal at 33 minutes leaving the score 0-2 at the half.

Rosamond went on to score two more goals in the second half leaving the final score 0-4.

Baker delivered 11 saves during the game, while Rachel Driskell scored the only shots on goal for the Lady Broncs.

On defense Kern Valley cleared the ball six times with Hannah Ocampo delivering three of those.

As with Bishop, Rosamond’s composed possession with good outside shooting frustrated the Lady Broncs.

Head coach Tom Cormack said, “Bishop and Rosamond are as strong as I have ever seen them. They maintain good shape and composed passing for a good possession platform from which to attack. This was an uncharacteristically lethargic game for us. In each game we took too long to get fired up. When we face them again we will need to hit hard from the get go to disrupt their passing and establish better possession of our own. We will be on the road for the next two games.”

Current High Desert League standings:
Bishop 6-0, Rosamond 4-1, Frazier Mountain 3-1-1, Kern Valley 2-2-1, Cal City 1-3, Desert 0-4, Boron 0-5.
