Kern Valley’s JV volleyball team starts year on the right foot

The season for the Lady Broncs JV volleyball squad was one of success as they defeated Foothill.
They began the year on the road against the Lady Trojans. They took the first set 25-10 and finished off their dominating match win with a 25-9 score. They were able to accomplish the victory by winning the service game. As a team they delivered 16 serving aces. Six Lady Broncs were credited with at least one service ace.
They also were able to collect nine kills as a team. Six of the Kern Valley players recorded at least one kill. As a team they attempted 20 kills. They were almost 50 percent at the net. On the defensive side of the court, the Lady Broncs saw eight players hustle for at least one dig in the match. They had 16 digs in the match.
Leading the way in service points for Kern Valley were Samantha Wyly and Ashley Plante. They delivered four aces apiece. Amber McAhren added three aces, while Taylor Kristy and Kenadie Young each had two. Brynnleigh McCarthy rounded out the service aces for the Lady Broncs with one.
At the net, McCarthy was the top kill leader as she collected three in six attempts. Young had a pair of kills on three attempts, while Jade Montes attempted five with one kill. Riley Wilkins, Kristy, and Emmalynn Bechtel each had two attempts and delivered one kill apiece.
Defensively, Kern Valley was led by Plante in digs. She was credited with eight digs. Keria Hayes had two digs, while Wyly, Kiki Smith, Anna Allen, McAhren, Bechtel, and Young recorded one each.
As seen by the individual stats this was a total team effort for the Lady Broncs. Head coach Jessica Yasin said, “This was a great first match for this team, the exceeded my expectations and dusted off some nerves. They learned how to work together to improve throughout each set. It was truly a full team win. Every single player worked their way into the game and was a positive addition to the court.” 
Kern Valley 1-0 took the court at home on Tuesday as they entertained Shafter. They will travel to Shafter on Saturday to compete in a tournament on. Then on August 27 they will go to McFarland.
