The varsity Lady Broncs basketball team competed in the Arvin Tournament before the New Year.
They would split their games winning twice and losing twice.
They started off against Highland and were defeated 51-42. The Lady Scots opened up the seven point lead after the opening quarter. They dropped in 15 points, while Kern Valley was limited to just eight points.
In the second, the Lady Broncs stepped up the defense and allowed Highland just nine points. The offense took their turn in finding the bottom of the basket. They poured in 16 points to go to the break, knotted up at 24-24.
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Scots added 15 points, and Kern Valley scored 10 to make the score 39-34 heading to the fourth.
In the final quarter of action, the defenses clamped down as the two teams combined for just 20 points. Unfortunately, the Lady Broncs fell short as they only had eight points. Highland scored 12 to close out the nine-point victory.
The following day, the Lady Broncs were back on the court and taking on Templeton. Kern Valley would enjoy the 42-27 win.
A big first quarter propelled them to a big cushion. They scored 11 points and the defense controlled their opponent allowing four.
The Lady Eagles scored 12 in the second and the Lady Broncs matched their first quarter production to go to the half in front, 22-16.
In the second half it was all Kern Valley as the defense gave up just 11 total points. The offense for the Lady Broncs answered with 20 points to claim the victory. Kern Valley scored 14 in the third and finished with six on the final quarter.
Next up for the Lady Broncs was a date with the West High squad the same day. The Lady Broncs struggled in the third quarter allowing the Lady Vikings to jump out to a big lead. It would prove to be the difference and led to a 47-39 loss for Kern Valley.
The two teams were matched evenly in the first half. Kern Valley opened with an 11-point first to take the 11-10 lead after one. The Lady Vikings and Kern Valley matched each other in the offense as both teams scored 10 points. They teams would go to the break with the Lady Broncs holding the 21-20 lead.
It would be erased as West came out of the break and clamped down on defense. The Lady Broncs managed just two points in the third. It gave the Lady Vikings the lead at 31-23. Unable to erase the deficit in the final quarter, Kern Valley was sent to the loss. Each team added 16 points in the fourth quarter.
In their final game of the tournament, the Lady Broncs went up against San Marcos. Kern Valley would get back into the win column as they grabbed the 48-29 win.
A strong first quarter pushed the Lady Broncs to the win as they scored 19 points. San Marcos was limited to four points. Kern Valley would never look back. They took the 31-16 lead into the half, after each team scored 12 points.
In the third quarter the Lady Broncs defense snuffed the Lady Royals as they could not score a point. Kern Valley put in 11 points to open the 42-16 margin.
In the fourth, the Lady Broncs finished with six points and San Marcos scored 13 to create the final score.

The Lady Broncs jumped back in to High Desert League action on Tuesday as they traveled to take on rival Bishop.
