Coming into the match with McFarland, the Kern Valley girls’ tennis team was looking to get consistent. They found that route and netted a victory.
The Lady Broncs used the broom and swept their opponent. They dominated in the doubles sets. As a team the singles players, lost only two games. The doubles action was a little tougher for Kern Valley, but in the end, they were able to win every set.
The closest match of the day came in singles play. Elizabeth Davis trailed in her set 3-6. She would show resolve and make an incredible comeback and collect the next five games to capture the set 8-6. In other singles action, Kyra Flint took her set in dominating fashion. She would win every game and win it 8-0. Abby Phillips won her set 8-2, while Marissa Tate and Karsyn Liske each grabbed the 8-4 win.
In sweeping the doubles play, Flint and Phillips surrendered one game, but came out with the 8-1 win. Tate and Davis followed suit and won their set 8-1. The third doubles team for the Lady Broncs, Kylie Griswold and Taylor Beam collected the 8-0 win to complete the sweep.
With this win, Kern Valley will now turn its focus on HDL action. A match with Rosamond at home was played on Tuesday. Desert will come to town two days later. The Lady Broncs head coach Sabine Mixon said, “We were very excited by our first win, a sweep over McFarland. We are excited to begin league matches on Tuesday against Rosamond and Desert on Thursday, both matches played on the home court. We would love to have the community come out and support us this next week.”
