The Lady Broncs opened the season with a dominating victory.
Traveling to Ridgecrest to take on the Lady Crusaders of Immanuel Christian, they came back home with the 58-20 win.
Kern Valley took control from the start and never looked back. They opened the game by scoring 15 points. The defense held their opponent to just seven points and the rout was on.
Kern Valley added 18 points in the second to make the margin 33-10 as the two teams headed to the locker room.
Coming out of the break, Kern Valley continued to drop points in the bucket. They finished the third with 13 points. The defense also continued to play well as they limited the Lady Crusaders to just eight points. Heading to the final quarter the scoreboard read 46-18.
The pattern stayed the same as the Lady Broncs finished off the game with 12 points to create the final score of 58-20.
Kern Valley hit 38 percent from the floor and were 7-of-12 from the free throw line. They had three players score in double figures and one player complete a double-double.
Hannah Hurley was the top scorer with 21 points, including hitting twice from three-point land. She was credited with 11 steals to complete her double-double.
Maddie Hurley added 12 points, while Bradlie Preston scored 10 points. Brenna Acosta and Addy Goulding each scored four points, while Haley Tedrow dropped one from behind the arc for her three points. Krista Witten and Sadi Hartman finished off the scoring with two points apiece.
Hartman led the team in rebounding as she grabbed seven. Preston and H. Hurley each pulled down six boards, while M. Hurley had five rebounds. Goulding and Acosta each had four boards, while Witten, Tedrow and Sharon
Reyes recorded a pair of rebounds. Mariah Maxwell had one rebound.
M. Hurley was the team leader in unselfish play as she handed out four assists. Witten, Acosta and H. Hurley dished out two assists each, while Preston, Tedrow and Hartman had one each.
Besides H. Hurley swiping 11 steals, M. Hurley had four, while Preston and Tedrow had three apiece. Witten and Hartman recorded two each, while Goulding, Reyes, and Maxwell had one apiece. Alyssa Servin recorded the lone block for the Lady Broncs.
Head coach Bill Gallis said, “The girls, after starting out slow, played a great game and it was a total team effort. Everyone contributed and it was great to get that first win under our belt. There is plenty of room to grow and I expect the girls to get better each week.”
Kern Valley will be playing in the Corcoran Tournament tonight. They will open the tournament against the host team Corcoran.
