Broncs rush for 278 yards and six touchdowns to defeat Cal City 42-0
The Kern Valley JV football stomped their Cal City opponent in Friday’s HDL contest. The ground game was working as the Broncs rushed for six touchdowns on the night.
The tone was set on the fourth play of the game. The Kern Valley defense forced a punt. They put pressure on the Ravens punter and were rewarded when Jaadyn Cleveland made the tackle. With the ball resting on the 15-yard line of Cal City, the Broncs used one play to score and start the rout. Tye Humphers scored the touchdown to put Kern Valley ahead 6-0. The PAT was good from the toe of Ewan Shea and the score moved to 7-0. That would be all the scoring the Broncs would need, but they refused to be stopped.
Kern Valley used a special kick off play to get the ball back. Gavin Tibbett jumped on the ball and the Broncs were in business again. Three plays were all it took for Kern Valley to find the end zone for the second time. Ryder Pappas plunged in from one yard out to make it 13-0. The extra-point was successful and the lead was now 14-0. That would be the score when the first quarter ended.
Kern Valley would score twice more before the half ended putting them in prime position to control the rest of the game. With the ball at midfield, Pappas wasted little time in running to pay dirt. The 50-yard scamper increased the cushion for Kern Valley to 20-0. The Broncs defense did its part and forced the Ravens to turn the ball back to Kern Valley on downs. Starting on their own 45-yard line, the Broncs went on a long drive. They covered the 55 yards in 10 plays and added to their score. It was Humphers turn again to cross the goal line. This time it was from the one and the margin was now 27-0. The half would end this way.
There would be no scoring coming out of the break. The two teams alternated possessions with neither able to mount a scoring drive. The third quarter was in the books. The score remained 27-0 for the Broncs. In the fourth the Kern Valley defense pushed the Ravens into submission as they set up the final two touchdowns. A Cal City fumble forced by Israel Padilla and recovered by Aiden Smith put the Broncs close to the end zone. Tibbett scored from 13 yards away for the Broncs fifth TD of the game. The score now stood at 34-0. The final score of the game came from Cleveland who got in on the scoring action with a 10-yard scoot into the end zone. This put the final score at 42-0 and the Broncs were winners once again.
Leading the ground game for Kern Valley was Humphers. He went for 123 yards on nine carries and the two TD’s. Pappas followed with nine carries for 103 yards and the pair of scores. Tibbett rushed for 32 yards on three touches and the one touchdown. Cleveland’s only carry resulted in the 10-yard score. Jaime Salmon and Quincy Parchment each had one touch with a result of a five yard gain. Humphers threw the ball seven times, completing four for a total of 20 yards. Gabe Ross caught a pair of passes for 12 yards, while Shiloh Galvan grabbed one pass for five yards. Parchment had one cat that went for three yards to cap the passing for the Broncs.
Defensively the Kern Valley squad was led by EJ Anderson with four tackles, including a sack. Cleveland also had four tackles. Bringing down two ball Ravens carriers were Ethyn Henry, Tibbett, and Qwintin Pariseau. There were 10 Kern Valley players that were credited with one tackle apiece. Waylon Sargent, Max Baughman, Galvan, David Swan, Dylan Carson, Ross, Xander Lofty, Padilla, and Casey Trumpower were these Broncs.
Kern Valley head coach Bill Gallis said, “What a game by the entire team today. Everyone contributed to the victory, and it was a sound win for us. It was great to see many players getting action in multiple positions, and we had standout performances across the board. I was particularly impressed with our defense and how they flew to the ball. Offensively, we had another strong showing in our running game. It’s a great win, but we’ll put this one behind us come Monday and focus on our next game.”
The next one is the all important one as the Broncs will go on the road face off against Bishop. The tough environment will be to see which team gets the leg up in the HDL standings. The game is slated for kick off at 4 p.m.
