This past Thursday the Kern Valley cross country teams competed at CIF in Fresno.
The weather was sunny and in the low 70’s with no wind. The grass was wet from rain during the night which made the course slower.
In the girls race two Kern Valley Athletes competed. Bella Williams ran her last high school cross country race and finished in 47th place with the time of 25:27.
Head coach Don Hazard said, “Williams had been sick the last couple of days and ran the race under the weather but did the best she could.”
Olivia Wagner finished her freshman year and has a great future as she continues to improve. Wagner set a personal record for the season and finished in 62nd place with the time of 27:24.
Rachel Fitz from Bishop won the individual CIF Division 4 championship race with the time of 18:45. Rachel has scholar-ship offers from the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, University of California at Berkeley and Brigham Young University. She represented the High Desert League well.
In the boys race Gunner Davis set a personal record as he continues to improve and finished in 52nd place at 20:32. Mack Wargo ran a great race and finished in 82nd place at 22:06. Will Bunting finished in 90th place at 22:24.
Hazard said, “These three sophomores have all improved and will be faster next year as juniors.”
Trey Bushling is also fighting an illness, but did the best he could and finished in 112th place at 24:24.
Hazard said, “These young men and women are model citizens and great people. It’s been a fantastic season for me as a coach. This was my last season of coaching cross country and I want to thank my current teams and all the teams from the past for enriching my life. They are great kids and I will miss them. I wish them all the best.”
