Kern Valley pins down league title

The Broncs are back-to-back High Desert League champs after beating Rosamond 54-21 on senior night.
The dual match started at 285 pounds with a forfeit win for the Broncs. They also got a forfeit win at 106 pounds.
At 113 pounds, Leah Villa wrestled her heart out, but came up short losing by a few points. At 120 pounds, the Roadrunners had a win by forfeit followed by another Kern Valley win by forfeit. The team score stood at 18-9 for Kern Valley.
The Broncs Max Crockett was pinned to make the team score closer as the scoreboard read 18-15.
Up next for the Broncs was Jaden Stansbury who was able to outlast his opponent and record a couple takedowns and come away with the win. At 145 pounds John Weghorst was pinned making the team score tied at 21-21.
In the best match of the night, Conrad Miller faced Rosamond’s best wrestler who went up one weight to try to get more team points. Miller wrestled great and came away with the 10-7 decision sealing the team victory for the Broncs. With only the forfeits ahead Kern Valley had claim their second straight league title.
Dylan Stansbury, Devon Vittoria, and Tyler Cazares all received forfeit wins. In a back-and-forth match, Diego Tapia was able to come out on top and pin his opponent, followed by Jason Phillips at 220 pounds who also pinned his opponent, making the final score 54-21.
Kern Valley’s head coach Wes Woody said, “As coaches, we are extremely proud of the kids effort. All of them were big parts of this league title. We want to thank the seniors for all their hard work and dedication.”
Kern Valley will now prepare for the HDL Finals to qualify for the CIF tournament.
