The Lady Broncs made their court appearance in Porterville on Sept. 5.
Opening the season on the road Kern Valley squared off with Granite Hills. The temperature was warm and the teams played a pro-set match. (First player to eight, winning by two.) Granite Hills has 10 tennis courts.
The Lady Broncs would win the match as they swept the singles and took two-of-three in doubles to collect the 8-1 victory.
In singles action, Hannah Hurley won 8-6, Maddie Hurley, Hannah Ocampo and Kaitlin Davenport each won their set by identical 8-5 scores. River Sartor won 8-4, and Riley Quinn completed the singles sweep with an 8-1 win.
In doubles the team of M. Hurley and Sartor won 8-2, while the team of Cara Parks and Nikki Brooks won their set 8-4. The only blemish for Kern Valley came from the team of H. Hurley and Ocampo who dropped their doubles set 8-4.
Head coach Brian Christianson said, “It was good to get some match play in. A good start to the season, but we definitely need to keep improving. We really focused on singles play in practice, and we need to get to where we work on doubles now. Of the eight girls that played, six of them were playing in a high school tennis match for the first time.”
Up next for the Lady Broncs was an away match against Foothill on Monday. They will then travel to Strathmore on Thursday.
