Kern Valley’s jayvee baseball team got to play five games this week.
They were successful in three games, while dropping two. The Broncs took wins from McFarland, Parlier, and Boron. They fell in games versus North and Rosamond.
The Broncs pounded McFarland 11-0 in five innings. On March 7, Kern Valley went on the road to shutout the Cougars.
Kern Valley scored twice in the first and second innings to go up 4-0. They added one run in the third and then used a strong five run fourth to put the game out of reach. The Broncs added one more run to complete the 11-0 victory.
Kern Valley only had three hits in the game, but had plenty of other base runners. The Broncs were issued 12 free passes. Using this to their advantage, Kern Valley ran wild as they collected 12 stolen bases as a team.
Leading the charge was Wyatt Blagg with one hit. His hit was a double and he scored twice. Shilo Galvon had a single and two RBIs, while Blake Baughman picked up the other hit for the Broncs.
On the bases, Baughman swiped three to lead the team. Owinn Liske, Blagg, Jackson Price, and Blake Embry each stole two bases. Galvon finished off the steals with one.
One day earlier Kern Valley played North High. This time the outcome was not so favorable. The stars topped Kern Valley 16-10 in a game where the home team Broncs battled. Two big innings from North were the difference. A six run fifth and a five run third made the challenge too much for the Broncs.
The two teams were tied after two innings at 5-5. The third saw North score five times to open the 10-5 margin. Kern Valley got back to within one as they plated four runners in the bottom of the fourth to trail 10-9. The fifth saw the six run explosion from the Stars and put the game out of reach.
The Broncs tried to mount a comeback, but only scored once in their half of the fifth to finish out the game.
In this contest, the Broncs only managed three hits, but six walks and 11 stolen bases pushed the runs to cross home plate.
Liske cracked a double, while Blagg and Greyson Fitzgerald each had one hit. Price recorded the lone RBI for Kern Valley
Maddox Beaury, Fitzgerald, and Price crossed the plate a pair of times. Galvon, Blagg, Liske, and Edward Bowen each scored once.
On the bases, Blagg was able to steal four bases to lead Kern Valley. Fitzgerald swiped three, while Beaury had a pair of steals. Galvon and Price were credited with one steal apiece.
The following games, the scores were made available, but the stats were not.
In two wins the Broncs beat Parlier 18-10 and took care of Boron 11-7. They would drop their contest versus Rosamond 12-4.
Up next for the jayvee Broncs will be Woodlake whom they played Tuesday and Granite Hills on Thursday. Both games saw Kern Valley travel to the contests.
