Despite some adverse weather, the Broncs’ track team earned enough points to finish in sixth place.

There were 17 teams at the George Olsen Invitational Track Meet that was held in Coalinga. Kern Valley took a team of 13 athletes who earned 33.5 points as a team.

The Broncs finished behind the teams of Lemoore, Kerman, Los Banos, the host, Coalinga and Hanford.

According to head coach Brian Christianson, “Conditions: 56 degrees at the start of the meet (2 p.m.) Blustery day, as there was scattered rain showers at times throughout the meet, and a crosswind was blowing throughout the meet.”

The breeze was in the throwers’ face in the discus. Coalinga High School has a brand new resurfaced all-weather nine lane orange and black track and brand new longtriple jump runways that have been moved outside of the stadium. Throwers threw onto grass.

Seventeen teams competed in the 53rd annual George Olsen Invitational. All running events were electronically timed, and all scores were “official” (meaning that this is a qualifying for CIF meet.)

Medals went to the top three in each event. The top six scored for the team scoring. Frosh/soph events for all running events.

The Kern Valley squad will have their first home meet of the season today at 3 p.m. It will also be the start of the High Desert League meets. Cal City will come to town to square off with the Kern Valley Broncs.
