Kern Valley crushes Scorpions as they open HDL play

Broncs collect lop-sided 62-0 victory over Desert

The Broncs varsity football team began league play with a dominating performance over the Desert Scorpions.
The final score was 62-0 as the Kern Valley team moved to 1-0 in the HDL. The ground game was strong from the start as the Broncs scored five times Three different Kern Valley players crossed the goal line while carrying the ball. There were also Three scoring tosses in the game for the Broncs. The final touchdown came on a kickoff return. Combine that with eight PAT’s and you reach the magic number of 62 points.
This game was decided in the first quarter, Kern Valey scored 21 points to begin the onslaught. They increased that to 34 points in the second quarter. Going to the break it was 55-0. The Broncs added their final score in the third quarter for the decisive win.
The Kern Valley offense totaled 367 yards in the game. The ground game produced 298 yards, while the Broncs threw just nine times with for completions for 69 yards. Three of those receptions went for touchdowns. Carver was 3-of-5 passing for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson Price threw four times completing one pass that went for a seven-yard touchdown.
On the receiving end for the Broncs was Deegan Lee who hauled in one pass for 44 yards. This was a scoring toss from Carver. Bryce Smoot grabbed two catches for 18 yards. Both of his receptions went for touchdowns. One was 11 yards and the other was seven yards. Daniel Hinkey was credited with one catch for seven yards. In the ground game, Carson Parks led the team in rushing with 115 yards with 10 touches. He would score from 21 yards out and one yard out. Carver toted the ball three times for 81 yards and a pair of TD’s. The longest came from 65 yards away, while the other was from 12 yards out. Tavin Watts followed with 58 yards rushing on seven carries, while Jeffrey Clark rushed three times for 35 yards. Price scored on his lone carry in the game. The touchdown was from six yards out. Andrew Miller rounded out the ground game as he rushed three times for three yards. Aiden Madden was the special teams star as he returned a kickoff for 80 yards for a score. Completing the scoring for the Broncs was Tristan Beckham who converted eight of the nine PAT’s in the game.
The Broncs defense was led by Blake Baughman with eight tackles. Hinkey stopped six Desert ball carriers, while Drake Posney recorded five tackles and recovered a Scorpions fumble. Watts had four tackles, including a sack. He would get credit for recovering a pair of Desert fumbles. Jacob Abraugh had three tackles, including a sack. Other Broncs that recorded three tackles were Luke Brown, Ivan Mondragon, Joey Galvan, Gauge Johnson, and Miller. Lee, Smoot, and Clark had one tackle apiece and each picked off a Desert pass.
The Broncs head coach Scott Tedrow said, “Not much of a game. It was over by the end of the first quarter. We were able to work on a few things on offense and defense, and it let us get some valuable playing time for some of our younger and more inexperienced players.”
Kern Valley will continue in league play this Friday as they will host Rosamond on Homecoming. Festivities will be between the JV and varsity games.
