The Superior Court of California, County of Kern, is accepting applications for the Kern County Grand Jury. Applications will be accepted through March 21, 2020. The Grand Jury is comprised of 19 citizens from Kern County and will be interviewed and nominated by Kern County Superior Court Judges after the application process is complete. The primary goal is to provide service to the county by obtaining a diversified pool of representatives within varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds that make up our county’s population. In June, Grand Jurors will be selected through a random drawing conducted in an open court.

Selected Grand Jurors will act as an investigative team to provide the county and city governments with an assurance that operations and public funds are spent effectively. Applicants who are selected are expected to provide approximately 20 hours a week hearing evidence of public offenses presented by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office and issuing criminal indictments.

Grand Juror candidates must be at least 18-years-old, must be a citizen of the United States, must have a working knowledge of the English languages, and must have resided in Kern County for at least one year to the date of the filed application. Service provided by selected candidates will begin in July 2020.
