Joan Kaplan Wallace, born February 11, 1930, in Cincinnati, OH, passed away on May 30, 2018, at the age of 88 of cancer. Joan passed away at her home in Kelso Valley in the arms of her daughter, Terry.
Joan was a long-time resident of Weldon, living in Kelso Valley for the last 38 years of her life.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Terry Sohns, from South Carolina; her grandsons, Wes Sohns and his wife Makenzie, and Brian Sohns and his girlfriend Brittany; her great-granddaughter Sydney; her sister Ruth Ambrosius, and nieces and nephew.
Joan was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was a friend to all she met along the way in her travels. She was referred to as a “Little Firecracker.”
She was a volunteer/President for the Kern Valley Hospital Auxiliary as a Pink Lady working in their thrift store in Mt. Mesa and was also a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Eagles Lodge in Mt. Mesa. Later, she was employed at the KOA in Weldon working in the store/bar for Bill and Cynthia Ballinger.
She also volunteered to work at the Kernville Rodeo from time to time. She was a person always able and willing to help wherever she was needed to do volunteer work.
She was witty and could be sassy and always had a good joke to tell. In Joan’s eyes, everybody was a friend.
She will always be missed and not forgotten by her dear friends.
Joan’s final wishes and request was to be cremated. She also requested no services.
