Jim was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Lawndale, Calif. He was the third of eight children that Mary and Harold brought into this world. He had two children and leaves behind a loving daughter and two beautiful grandchildren.
Growing up, he fished and surfed the local South Bay beaches. As a teenager, he worked in several gas stations and developed a real interest in cars. Jim fully embraced his era, cruising and racing his “64 GOAT.” In 1971, he married his high school sweetheart. Jim was a craftsman carpenter, cabinet maker and enjoyed his career as a general contractor.
In 1999, he left the South Bay and moved to the Kern Valley, where he had a long family history. His father had worked in the Big Blue gold mine out of Kernville and lived in Havilah during the early ‘40s .His uncle built one of the first cabins in Bodfish; relatives lived in the valley for years. Jim had a long association with Masonic organizations, being a DeMolay as a teenager. He was an active member of Kern River Valley Lodge #827, the Scottish Rite in Bakersfield and the Sequoia Rite Club in Kernville. He was a member of the Lake Isabella Shrine Club, as well as the Royal Arch Kern River Chapter #162. Giving back to these organizations was his passion.
As a trustworthy and loving friend, Jim was always there to lend a hand. He will be greatly missed and his stories, fishing days and cowboy movies will always be remembered.
Services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the Lodge, 562 James Rd., Kernville. His service will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch provided by the Lodge and Eastern Star.
