President, KRV Chamber
It is that time of the month when I get the privilege to address all of our loyal chamber supports, residents and out of town visitors who enjoy reading about the Kern River Valley.
I wish to start by welcoming our newest chamber members who are as follows Kern River Valley Woman’s Club; Ken Lackey Carpet Services; Rainbow Donuts & Ice Cream, and TLC Mechanical. Thank you for joining our team and please let our newest members know how much we value them and their services in the Kern River Valley.
January has been interesting, the weather is unable to decide to we need a little snow in hills or mid seventy degree days just to tease us. What I do know is the crisp mornings in the KRV are an amazing site and our sunsets are too bad as well, I just hope our rain which is scheduled for the first week of February add a bit of snow in the high country as we will the water from the magnificent Kern River too fill our lake during the spring and summer run offs. So let’s all of us ask Mother Nature for little bit of white stuff in the high country.
Earlier this month the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce had the privilege of honoring Mr. Gary Zuber and Ms. Margie Furuya who were the recipients of our Man and Woman of the year awards. It was well attend along with our Assemblyman Vince Fong, First District Supervisor Phillip Peters and representatives from Senator Shannon Groves Office were in attendance. Congratulations to two individuals who have served our valley well for many years.
February is going to be a busy one, the Kernville Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Whiskey Flats Days on February 16 -19, 2024. The parade will be on Saturday morning along with a number of fantastic events at McNally Arena. Saturday will host the Iron Horse Rodeo then Sunday and Monday Wild West Days Rodeo, while you are enjoying the festivities stop by the Isabella Lake Derby Fishing Booth in Circle Park to say hello and take a look at all the amazing things happening at this year’s derby.
Speaking of the Isabella Lake Fishing Derby, registration is open if you wish to sign up early to qualify for our early bird cash prize drawing of $500 sponsored by the Kern Valley Sun. You could pocket $500 before the derby even kicks off on March 23, 2024. Our volunteers continue to feed the trout in the fish pins three times a day and they are growing nicely, with the large amount of trout being stocked into Lake Isabella along with what your chamber of commerce has coming in from Calaveras Trout Farm this derby should be one for the books. We will have over $60,000 in tagged trout swimming in our lake with a total prize pool of over $76,000 up for grabs.
Our general membership meeting will take place this month at 178 Bar & Grill on February 14, 2024. Our guest speaker is Mr. David Wood from Edward Jones here in Lake Isabella. You must RSVP with our chamber if you wish to attend as we tend to run low on seating. We look forward to seeing everyone at the general meeting and Whiskey Flats.
Please stay safe and utilize your chamber of commerce along with our members,
