Having such a stellar season earned Helen Hayes of the Lady Broncs CIF champion squad an All State pitcher award.
Cal-Hi sports recently named their All State Softball teams for small schools and Hayes was selected as one of the pitchers.
According to their website, the 36th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Softball Teams start out with these players named from schools that were in CIF section playoffs during the 2018 season.
Junior Helen Hayes from Kern Valley of Lake Isabella has gained small schools statewide honor after striking out 232 batters in 126 innings with four no-hitters and 0.67 ERA.
She joined six other pitchers from around California on the Small Schools First Team.
The other Cal-Hi sports Small Schools First Team Pitcher selections were as follows:
Mia Barrozo (Santa Paula) Sophomore
Jessie Fontes (Grace Brethren, Simi Valley) Sophomore
Janessa Jasso (Dos Palos) Junior
Hailey Peterson (Sutter) Sophomore
Alessandra Samperio (Mary Star, San Pedro) Sophomore
Ilana Sullivan (King’s Academy, Sunnyvale) Junior
Hayes other stats that were not used for the consideration saw her toss seven shut outs. She had 20 complete games in 21 appearances for a record of 19-2. On the season she allowed just 50 hits in those 126 innings pitched. She gave up only 12 earned runs and only walked 74 opposing batters on the year.
The opposing batters average (OBA) against Hayes on the season was a measly .112 further proving her domination in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Broncs.
