Giving thanks to the community for its support of Non-Event Fundraiser

To the Editor:

We at the Kern River Valley Historical Society would like to thank our members and our community for their support of our Non-Event Fundraiser.

Since we closed in mid-March, we have had to get creative when it comes to funding. Normally, donations at the door, gift shop sales, and fundraising events account for the bulk of our budget, so COVID really threw us for a loop! Our board immediately cut spending precipitously, but certain budget items just had to be spent.

We wrote a couple of small grants. Those grants and memberships sustained us for quite a while.

We took a stab in the dark with this fundraiser and with your help, we’ve done quite well. So far, we have taken in the equivalent of our donation box income for the entire year. That really helps!

The people in the Kern River Valley are well known for their generosity and this fundraiser has proven that to be more than true!

We all know that the Museum and Annex wouldn’t exist without community support, but in times like these, that support is critical for survival. Museums all over the country are closing, but rest assured, we will be around for a long, long time.

We are looking forward to the time when we can reopen. In the meantime, we are adding new displays and making various improvements thanks to other donations.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone and showing off our handiwork that further reflects the exceptional history of the Kern River Valley!

Thanks again everyone!
