Fire restrictions in place

Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety and protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited below 4,000 feet within the Sequoia National Forest. This Order is effective from June 25, 2018, through November 30, 2018.

1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, except within the areas shown on Exhibit B or listed in Exhibits A, C, or D. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building or within the areas shown on Exhibit B or listed in Exhibits A, C, or D. 36 CFR 261.52(d).
3. Operating an internal combustion engine, except on a designated National Forest System road, trail, or within the areas shown on Exhibit B or listed in Exhibits A, C, or D. 36 CFR 261.52(h).
4. Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame. 36 CFR 261.52(i).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

1. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
2. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission. Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions listed above. However, persons with a valid California Campfire Permit may use portable stoves and lanterns with shut-off valves, using pressurized gas, liquid fuel, or propane.
3. Persons with a valid Forest Service Forest Products Removal Permit for fuelwood are exempt from Prohibition No. 3 when gathering fuelwood as specified on the permit.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.

Big Meadows Area: The Big Meadows Area boundary begins at the intersection of the Generals Highway and the Sequoia National Forest boundary in Section 4, Township 15 South, Range 29 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian (MDB&M); then continues northwest along the Generals Highway and then along the Generals Highway and the Sequoia National Forest Boundary for approximately 7 miles to its intersection with Forest Road No. 14S02 (Burton Road) at Quail Flat; then continues northeast along Forest Road No. 14S02 (Burton Road) for approximately 9 miles to its intersection with Forest Road No. 14Sll (Big Meadows/Horse Corral Road) in Section 10, Township 14 South, Range 29 East, MDB&M; then continues northeast along Forest Road No. 14Sll (Big Meadows/Horse Corral Road) for approximately 7 miles to its intersection with the Sequoia National Forest boundary in Section 21, Township 13 South, Range 30 East, MDB&M; then continues south and west along the Sequoia National Forest boundary for approximately 13 miles to the starting point, as
