The new school year might be at the beginning, but in the world of Kern Valley sports, it has and ending in the fall.
The annual Awards Night at Kern Valley was recently held with all the teams gathering to honor the student athletes and the outstanding players of the season. The collection of the athletes that performed well in the class room and on the field was extensive. This takes a commitment from the athletes as they look to keep their priorities in tackling both the classroom and being a teammate on the Broncs and Lady Broncs teams.
The focus then turned to the outstanding athletes from each Kern Valley team. There were 10 teams that selected the Most Valuable Player on the season. This included the newest team to have a voice at Awards Night. This year the frosh/soph volleyball team also chose an MVP. Three teams had co-MVP’s which included the JV volleyball squad, and both Broncs football teams.
Leading the way was the frosh/soph volleyball team. Gabby Eastes was selected as the MVP for the newest Kern Valley squad. The JV Lady Broncs had co-MVPs in Brynnleigh McCarthy and Ashley Plante. The CIF semi-finalist Lady Broncs selected Ruby Hawkins as the MVP. The two cross country teams chose Sebastian Stallone as the boys squad MVP. HDL champion Aspen Hacker was the choice from the girls runners. The Lady Broncs tennis team picked Marissa Tate as their MVP, while the JV cheerleaders chose Preslie Hurley as the MVP. The varsity squad selected Ava Elliott as the MVP.
The last two Kern Valley teams to select MVP’s were the Broncs football teams. These were both shared by two athletes from the teams. At the JV level, Tye Humphers and Jackson Price were declared MVP for this season. Turning to the varsity team, Zane Carver and Daniel Hinkey were the Co-MVPs for the Broncs. Hinkey also picked up an additional award as he was selected as the HDL Defensive Player of the Year.
