Officials on behalf of Sequoia National Forest have announced that Rancheria Road and Evans Flat Campground within the Kern River Ranger District will be closed for hazard tree abatement and removal. These necessary closures are for the safety of the public due to multiple numbers of hazardous trees located along the road and throughout the campground. The closure began on November 18, 2019, and will follow through until Wednesday, September 30, 2020, under Forest Order 0513-19-21.
Deputy District Ranger Dionne Uzes states that there is a significant risk to people and property from hazardous trees which include dead or dying trees, part of living trees that have died, and unstable live trees. “Falling trees are an ever-present hazard when traveling or camping in the forest. Often, we are unaware of the risks. These trees have the potential to cause property damage or personal injury in the event of a failure.”
Forest Rd. No. 25S15, also known as Rancheria Road, from its intersection with Forest Road No. 26S37, known as Pettit Road, will be closed for approximately 9.2 miles to the Alta Sierra Ski Resort. This order also includes Evans Flat Campground along Rancheria Road to be closed. A map of the closure is available online at :
Federal, state, and county law enforcement, members of an organized rescue organization, firefighters and persons with a special permit are exempt from this order.
