Dinnita Du Toit, age 73 died on June 18, 2020 after losing a tough battle with cancer.
She was born September 28, 1946 to Jan and Catherina Du Toit in Hermanus, South Africa.
Dinnita came to the United States approximately 40 years ago. She lived in Fresno, CA for 10 years and worked in the catering business. When she left Fresno, she came to River Kern and lived there until February 2019. She worked at the RiverKern Store and Deli until she developed health issues.
She became very close to the owners of the store, Ed and Jewlz. In 2018 Dinnita became blind and developed her first bout of cancer, so she lived the rest of her time in the Kern Valley Skilled Nursing Center.
Even though Dinnita was blind she tried to do everything she could on her own. Dinnita loved to travel, go to casinos, fish the Kern River and just be in the outdoors.
She had such a sweet demeanor and soul and she loved to talk about her travel adventures. She had a lot of obstacles in her life but she never felt sorry for herself and never gave up when things got tough.
Dinnita is survived by her sister Jeanette Holmes of Durbanville, South Africa. Dinnita is also survived by her good friends, Marge, Mary, Jewlz and Chrissy.
Dinnita developed some great relationships with the other residents and the staff at the Nursing Home.
Thank you to the entire staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility for their
great care for Dinnita. There will be no services at this time.
