In light of Governor Newsom’s recent announcement that more community testing sites would open across the state, Kern Valley Hospital in partnership with Kern County will be offering community-wide testing beginning May 27, 2020. This will be provided at “no cost” to our community.
CEO Tim McGlew wants everyone in our community to have access to local testing. Our goal is to test up to 200 people per week. Meeting our testing goals is one of the key indicators to assist our county to begin making changes in our Shelter-in-Place Order.
The hospital will be performing PCR testing which is the gold standard for detecting COVID-19. A trained staff member using a nasopharyngeal swab will administer the test.
Testing at Kern Valley Hospital will be by appointment only. To make an appointment you must call (760) 379-2681 extension 267 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please be aware this number will only be available to make appointments for COVID-19 on Tuesday and Wednesdays and only during these hours.
You will not be able to leave any voice messages or schedule any other services at that dedicated number. We will begin accepting calls on Wednesday, May 20.
The testing site will be set up in the front parking lot of Kern Valley Hospital, 6412 Laurel Ave., Mountain Mesa. Testing will be on Wednesday and Thursdays only from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. Testing will only be by appointment; we will not be in a position to accommodate anyone who drops by.
This will be a drive-thru appointment; you will stay in your vehicle and wait for staff to direct you to pull forward into the tent.
Please be aware, tests go to a lab outside of Kern County. Please inform us during registration how you would like to receive your results. All positive tests will be notified by a personal phone call by the provider to the patient.
