COVID-19 not slowing Daughters of American Revolution area chapter

Even a pandemic can’t keep Daughters from accomplishing the mission of the CSSDAR: “With Full Hearts, We Can and We Will… Rise up and shine in service to God, home and country.”

The Kawaiisu Chapter, located in Lake Isabella, has not only survived; we have thrived! Meeting throughout the pandemic via Zoom, we had our first in-person celebration to welcome new members, and to celebrate 10-year Kawaiisu members. The Kawaiisu Chapter awarded Service Anniversary and 10-year Membership Certificates, as well as 10-year pins, to members Janell Carter, Portia Beebe and Mary Sullivan.

NSDAR America 250 Membership Task Force has set a membership goal of 200,000 members by 2022. The Kawaiisu Chapter has exceeded our goal of adding 10% to our membership. We welcomed five new members into our Chapter, and three of them are from one family: Debra Kent, Kelly Kent and Jennifer Alfred; along with Elise Modrovich and TJ Ashlock. Jennifer Alfred read a brief history of her patriot Samuel Breeze, meeting the requirement of NSDAR for chapters to celebrate their American patriots. Both Leona Osborne and TJ Ashlock completed the NSDAR New Members Course. Osborne has gone on to the New Horizons Course, and Ashlock is now qualified to be a volunteer genealogist through the NSDAR General Education Program.

Our next event will be “Wreaths Across America” on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Kern River Valley Cemetery at 9 a.m. Each year, millions of Americans come together to REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those that serve and their families, and TEACH the next generation about the value of freedom. The 2020 theme is “Be an American Worth Fighting For.” This free event is open to the public and we invite you to remember our heroes with us. If you have any questions, please contact Marsha Lassen, our regent, at

We look forward to welcoming amazing women that embrace the NSDAR theme: “God, Home & Country!“
