People came from far and wide to enjoy the annual obstacle course with a Halloween theme, Sunday October 27. The Boo Tacular Fun Run event was a part of the Kernville Chamber of Commerce’s Fall Festival and was located at McNally Arena.

OnPoint Gym organized and sponsored the event, to raise funds for Sarge’s Wreaths 4 Vets.

The chamber decided to change the time of the event this year. “We pushed it back so that people could still drive up in the morning and still enjoy the Fall Festival in Kernville,” said Tawnya Torgl, owner the OnPoint Gym.

Torgl, who is also on board with the chamber, said that the challenge has been a big draw, since she founded it, with close to 100 people participating and just as many in the stands.

The event was an obstacle course of over 20 obstacles. Most of the obstacles were inside of the rodeo arena. There were a few that were outside of the arena. The event included two mud pits.

Participants got to enjoy climbing hay bails, up and over logs and tall walls, and pulling big heavy bags, and going over the obstacle of the big BMX mountain bike dirt track.
Younger children had a smaller, age appropriate obstacle course, which was inside the arena where they chose their own pumpkin.

Spectators and families were able to watch, from the stands, and root for family and friends for support. “This year we’re offering prize money,” Torgl told the Kern Valley Sun.

This year’s event, which Kern River Radio and Angels Roost favorites Val Stone and Bronson Slaughter were MCs for, included categories of Male, Female, and Teams of Four. For the individuals the winner of the Men’s won $250. The winner of the Women’s won $250.

People signing up early to participate got an event tee shirt.

Other than her concern for local health and fitness, Torgl said she had reasons for supporting Sarge’s. She said, “I love Sarge’s Wreaths 4 Vets because I’ve got family that’s been in the military. I have my dad, I have 7 family members that are buried up here, and now I know that every one gets the flag on Veterans Day and the wreath on Christmas so that my family member is not forgotten for service. So that’s super nice.”
