Some of the Kern Valley High School Cheerleaders visited the Kern Valley Exchange Club (KVEC,) Thursday October 24, as a special guest of Reyanna Santos, president elect and board member of exchange.
The luncheon, which Paradise Cove Lodge hosted, was pretty well attended. Apparently those girls are popular among exchangeites.
Accompanied by their coach Samie Gould the visiting cheerleaders, Danika D’Amico, Alex Armes, Ava Elliott, and Mia Vittoria thanked the KVEC for the contribution members made to their organization. They also wanted to share their plans for the future.
The cheerleaders have been very involved with events, this year, most recently Homecoming. The club cheers for each volleyball game, every football game, home and away.
The squad used the money, from the KVEC Rubber Ducky fundraiser and a cookie raffle, to attain customized items for cheer, for all 25 girls.
Cheerleading through the high school is not technically a funded club. So the school doesn’t offer the group any money. The club sells buttons, which people request, to purchase.
All four girls who visited KVEC participate in various activities at school, including ASB, pep rallies, volleyball, softball and soccer.
Their coach told exchange, “These girls get to school, for practice, at 7:00 in the morning. And then they go and practice until 8:30. And then they go to school. And then the girls who play volleyball and soccer stay until 5:30 and 6:00 every night, pretty much all year round, through basketball and softball season.”
The girls said they felt like role models to younger girls. They appreciate meeting older students and being considered representatives of the Kern Valley.
Santos reminded the girls that youth becoming junior members of the KVEC is a help to the community.
The KVEC raises money for scholarships to high school students helping them attend college. Some of the cheerleaders have already been making plans for college.
