The Kern Valley girls basketball team closed out their regular season with a battle against HDL conference leader Rosamond. The contest went down to the last minute and while the Roadrunners prevailed, Lady Broncs junior Jessie Bunting, dominated the glass with a game high 20 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive boards, and a team-high 13 points along with two steals and a blocked shot.
Bunting was the only Bronc to score in double figures and her authority and command in the paint helped keep the Broncs close and gave the team multiple chances to start the clock again and get the ball to the hoop.
Kern Valley girls basketball coach Bill Gallis said, “Jessie Bunting is a junior with experience and drive and she is a leader on the court, in games, in practice and the locker room. She works hard, practices hard and plays hard.”
On the boys basketball court, despite suffering a lopsided loss on the scoreboard, the team played tough and senior Colton Carver was a team leader, inspiration and battler on the court and on the bench. Carver played 24 minutes and scored 16 points, pulled down seven rebounds, was the team’s top shooter at 57%, hitting 8-of-14 from the field and never quit.
KV basketball coach Michael Henson said, “Colton always steps up and consistently plays well.”
