Broncs varsity squad crushes Frazier Mountain

The Kern Valley varsity basketball team got back into the action and dominated their HDL opponent. They made the trip to Frazier Mountain to control the game from the opening tip off. The finals score saw the Broncs take the game 69-13.
The game from the beginning was in the hands of the Kern Valley team. The game opened with the defense shutting out the Falcons in the first quarter. The offense was able to score 16 points to end the initial quarter with the scoreboard reading 16-0 for the visiting Broncs. By the time the horn sounded to signify the break, the Kern Valley team increased the margin to 37-6. The rest of the way was going through the motions for the Broncs. Kern Valley added 32 second half points, while the Falcons would score just seven points to create the final score.
It was a team effort in the scoring department as 11 players were able to put up points in the game. The Broncs were led by Joey Galvan with 16 points. Jacob Redenius followed with 12 points, including hitting twice from long distance. Aiden Madden added eight points, while Carson Parks scored seven. He would drop one in from behind the three-point arc. All six of Daniel Hinkey’s points came from dropping in two buckets from the three-point line. Zane Carver also had six points in the win. Gilbert Bernal got in on the scoring as he added five points. He would also hit once from downtown. Bryce Smoot and Brandon Cox would each score three points. They would both sink a three-pointer. Jeffrey Clark scored two points, while Maddox Beaury sank a lone free throw for his lone point.
The Broncs would be an unselfish squad as they handed out 18 assists as a team. Four Broncs shared the team lead with three assists apiece. Madden, Smoot, Carver, and Parks each handed out three. The Galvan brothers, Shiloh and Joey, each dished out a pair of assists. Redenius and Clark recorded one assist apiece.
Leading the way on defense was Carver. He was the chairman-of-the-boards by grabbing 11 rebounds. Parks followed by pulling down six boards. Redenius, Beaury, and Clark each were credited with four rebounds, while Madden, J. Galvan, Hinkey, and Bernal had three boards apiece. S. Galvan and Smoot each had two rebounds to wrap up the board work.
The Broncs defense continued to hold the Falcons down as they recorded 13 steals as a team. They were led by Madden who was credited with four steals. Carver, Bernal, and Parks collected a pair of steals in the game. Recording one steal apiece were Redenius, Clark, and Cox.
Earlier in the week, Kern Valley was at home when they squared off with Desert. The HDL matchup went the Scorpions way as they took control in the first half. The Broncs were held to 13 points combined in the first two quarters. Desert’s offense was on point as they dropped in 34 points for the first half. Trailing by 21 points the two teams went to the break. The Broncs tried to comeback in the second half. They would out score Desert 31-23. It was not enough as they could not overcome the early deficit. The final score read 57-44 for the visiting squad.
Madden was the top scorer for Kern Valley with 10 points. Clark and Carver followed with eight points apiece. S. Galvan added six points, while J. Galvan scored five points. He would include dropping in once from behind the three-point line. Hinkey and Parks scored three points apiece, while Beaury made a lone free throw for his one point. Madde n and Parks shared the team lead in assists with three. Carver and J. Galvan each had one assist in the game.
J. Galvan was the top rebounder for the Broncs with six. Three from Kern Valley pulled down three boards apiece. Madden, Smoot, and Bernal grabbed three boards. Clark, Carver, S. Galvan, and Hinkey recorded two rebounds apiece. Closing out the board work was Beaury with one rebound. Clark was the only Kern Valley player to get credit with block. Madden, Parks, and Smoot shared the team lead in steals with two each. Carver and Bernal had one steal apiece.
During the holiday break, the Broncs went on the road to take on Templeton Eagles. They would come home with a 55-28 loss. Broncs scoring: Madden 9, Carver 6, J. Galvan 5, S. The Broncs are now 5-9 overall on the season and have an HDL mark of 3-2. They went on the road to face Rosamond on Tuesday. They will be on the road to take on Cal City on Friday.
