Broncs varsity basketball team falls to Bishop 46-40

Finish fourth of eight at Farmersville Tournament

Kern Valley’s varsity basketball squad played four games this week including a key HDL battle with rival Bishop. They would also compete at the Farmersville Tournament.
The game with Bishop saw the Broncs (3-7, 1-1 HDL) get saddled with the loss. Despite seven of the 12 players on the team scoring points. The defense also kept the scoring low as they handled Bishop allowing only 46 points. The loss in the HDL saw Kern Valey drop in the standings.
Two Broncs shared the scoring lead. Aiden Madden and Shiloh Galvan each scored a team-high nine points. They were followed by Zane Carver with six points. Joey Galvan and Bryce Smoot each added five points for Kern Valley. Carson parks added four points, while Daniel Hinkey wrapped up the scoring with two points. Smoot led the team in unselfish play as he dished out four assists. S. Galvan collected three assists, while Carver finished with a pair of assists. Madden and J. Galvan each had one assist to close out the offense for the Broncs.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Broncs were eld in rebounding by Carver. He was a monster as he pulled down a team-high 16 rebounds. J. Galvan and Hinkey were each credited with six boards, while S. Galvan and Smoot gathered in four rebounds apiece. Madden wrapped up the board play as he recorded a pair of rebounds. Kern Valley as a team were credited with seven blocks. They were led by Smoot with four. Carver smacked away two Bishop shots, while S. Galvan had one block in the contest. Madden had the quick hands as he led the team in steals with three. Carver and Hinkey each had two steals, while Smoot recorded one steal.
Before going up against Bishop, the Broncs played in the Farmersville Tournament. Despite not winning a game they would finish fourth of the eight teams that participated. They began the tournament in pool play where they would go 0-3. They started with a game versus Granite Hills out of the Porterville area. The final score in this game favored the Grizzlies 46-34.
J. Galvan was the top scorer in this one with nine points. Madden and S. Galvan each scored six points, while Smoot finished with five. Jeffrey Clark and Carver finished off the scoring with four points apiece. Smoot was the leader in assists with a team-high five. J. Galvan handed out a pair of assists, while S. Galvan had one assist.
On the boards, Carver grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Broncs. Clark pulled down five boards, while Smoot and Hinkey each had four rebounds. J. Galvan had three rebounds, while S. Galvan grabbed two boards. Carver and Clark swatted away four opponent shots in this game. Smoot and Hinkey had one block apiece. Carver recorded four steals to lead Kern Valley. Maddox Beaury was credited with three steals, while S. Galvan and Smoot had two steals apiece. Hinkey picked up the last steal for Kern Valley.
In their second game of the tournament, the Broncs squared off with East Bakersfield High School. This was a battle that came down to the end. Kern Valley stayed in the game, but came up just short. They dropped the 64-55 decision to the Blades. Seven Broncs were able to score points in this contest. S. Galvan had the hot hand as he poured in a team -high 22 points. Clark followed as he scored in double digits with 11 points. Carver and Hinkey each scored six points, while Smoot finished with five points. J. Galvan had three points in the game, while Madden closed out the Broncs scoring with two points. In the assists department, Smoot was the leader with five. Madden dished out four, while J. Galvan and Carver each handed out a pair of assists. S. Galvan was credited with one assist in the game.
On the boards, Carver grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Broncs. Clark pulled down six boards, while Madden had four rebounds. Smoot and Hinkey each collected three boards, while Beaury, S. Galvan, and J. Galvan finshed up with one rebound apiece. Four Broncs were credited with one block in the game versus the Blades. S. Galvan, Clark, J. Galvan, and Hinkey were the four players. Four players from Kern Valley were credited with at least one steal. Leading the way was Carver with eight steals. Smoot recorded a pair of steals, while Beaury and Hinkey each had one steal.
The final game of the tournament, Kern Valley went up against a tough team from Taft. The Wildcats Dominated the game as they saddled the Broncs with a 70-37 loss. Nine Kern Valley players were able to put the ball in the basket. Clark and J. Galvan led the way as they shared the team lead in scoring with eight apiece. Parks added six points, while Hinkey scored four. Smoot finished with three points for the Broncs. Four Kern Valley players would score two points in the contest with Taft. Madden, Beaury, Carver, and Brandon Cox scored two points apiece. No other stats were made available for this game.
The Broncs will get back into HDL action this Friday as they will entertain the Boron Bobcats.
