The first week of games in the new year saw ups and downs for the Kern Valley boys soccer team.
Playing High Desert League matches. We began by playing the Cal City Ravens at home on Jan. 7.
It was a hard fought game on both sides, but our men really showed their skills and teamwork, earning a 2-1 victory over their opponents.
It was Nathaniel Montgomery who scored the first goal in the first minute of play, and James Meachem was the eventual deciding goal in the 47th minute of play.
Head coach Peter Cormack said, “Great job, gentlemen!’
Two days later, we traveled far to play against Bishop, a team that has historically been very tough. In freezing weather, we battled hard, but Bishop showcased excellent passing and ball control. We had definite moments of brilliance, but in the end the cold and enemy skill were too much for us, ending the week in a disappointing 0-12 loss.
Cormack said, “However, our team continues to practice hard and improve. The season is only halfway over, and we’re excited to showcase our increasing skills in this second half.”
Next up was a non-league match on Tuesday. They would travel to take on Mojave.
The Broncs will be at home when they play the Boron Bobcats on Thursday.
