A minute and a half after the start of the game, Wonderful College Prep Academy (Delano) started off the attacking game by earning a corner kick that was saved by Kern Valley’s goal keeper, Hunter Blagg.
Sky Brown blocked Wonderful’s third shot on goal to keep the slate clean. A minute later Aldo Mascote initiated the first Broncs attack with a wide shot.
As Kern Valley mounted a vigorous defense, with only two subs available on the bench, this game was set to test the conditioning of the Broncs.
Throughout the first half Wonderful continued to dominate the attack with 15 more unanswered shots on goal. Blagg saved 14 and Dalton Epps saved one to leave the score tied 0-0 at the half.
Ten minutes into the second half Zach Goss gave the Broncs their first shot on goal, and the Kern Valley defense continued to hold strong as the game wore on. With 25 minutes left, Wonderful scored the first goal of the game.
And they scored again eight minutes later to make it 2-0 for the Wolves.
Kern Valley staged a rally with earning their best opportunity to score in the 65th minute. The Wolves goal keeper parried a long shot from Goss, Trenton Robertson followed it up to make the second attempt which was blocked by a defender which was then shot over the top to end the play.
The final goal of the game came one minute after that, and with 14 minutes left in the game. The final score favored Wonderful 3-0.
Kern Valley head coach, Peter Cormack said, “The boys fought hard, persistent to the final whistle. They held a 0-0 score for 70 percent of the game. But, with only two subs available conditioning and coordinated teamwork will be essential to success. This week will be a good test of the Broncs resolve as they are scheduled to play six games in six days.”
Monday starts with the first High Desert League match against Rosamond. On Tuesday they traveled to Boron for the second HDL game. On Thursday they will play Desert. Then it will be the Garces Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
