At the Wednesday July 10 meeting of the Kern River Valley Bridge Connection, founder Karen Zuber talked about the next activity the KRVBC would be doing to serve the community in connection with the Elks Lodge and Senator Shannon Grove’s office.
Their upcoming backpack drive has been an Elks Lodge annual event. Zuber said, “What’s really exciting is we’re partnering with the Elks, and the Elks has already an ongoing event that we’re going to come along side of, and support, and really make it more community than it already was. It really is about partnering together in the community.”
According to Zuber, the August 3event in Wofford Heights, will not just be a hand out or drive through. It’s about bringing together the community, helping the local community become better connected.
Zuber said, “Our goal is to improve and to make our community stronger (and) more resilient to some of the challenges that we face, in poverty and things like that.”
Senator Grove is partnering with the KRVBC and other entities to host the Backpack Drive, in support of local students. In a recent media plug for the event, her media personnel said, “Senator Shannon Grove is pleased to host a community backpack drive to benefit local students from preschool through high school. The drive will take place throughout the month of July at her Bakersfield District Office.”
Collection of new backpacks began July 1 and runs through July 31 at Senator Grove’s office at 5701 Truxtun Avenue, Suite 150 Bakersfield, CA 93309.
Grove said she was thrilled to host the drive supporting students and was inviting donations so that every student could be assured they’re starting school with necessities, feeling confident, on their learning journey.
Other entities involved in the drive include Open Door Network along with KRVBC and the Wofford Heights Elks Lodge.
