On Sunday, June 14 around 2 p.m. a man reportedly jumped into the Kern River, east of the mouth of the canyon, in an attempt to save a distressed juvenile.
With much effort, he was able to save the juvenile but was carried downriver with the current. Search and Rescue, Kern County Sheriff’s Office, and Kern County Fire Station searched the river for the man for hours.
A Search and Rescue helicopter was brought in to search from above. As of Monday, June 15, there is still no sign of the heroic man who risked his life to save another. Search and Rescue continues its efforts to locate the man. More details will be provided as they are received.
